Meta unveils Muse Spark, its first AI model from Superintelligence Labs

Meta has officially introduced Muse Spark, the first artificial intelligence model developed by its Superintelligence Labs, marking a major step in the company’s push toward advanced AI systems.

Introducing Muse Spark Social Share

Announced by Mark Zuckerberg, Spark is part of a new “Muse” family of AI models and is now powering an updated version of Meta AI, accessible through Meta’s platform.

The model is designed for everyday use, focusing on tasks such as visual understanding, health-related queries, shopping assistance, and social content creation. Meta says future versions of Muse will go beyond answering questions, evolving into AI agents capable of performing tasks on behalf of users.

The launch represents the first public product from Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, a division formed in 2025 with the goal of developing what Zuckerberg calls “personal superintelligence”, AI that empowers individuals rather than centralizing control.

To build the initiative, Meta conducted an aggressive hiring push, bringing in researchers from major AI companies and restructuring teams into smaller groups focused on research, product development, infrastructure, and advanced AI systems.

Despite heavy investment reportedly reaching tens of billions of dollars, Meta has faced pressure to prove its competitiveness in the AI space, where its earlier models have trailed behind rivals.

With the debut of Spark, Meta is positioning itself more directly in the race to develop next-generation AI tools, though it remains unclear how the new model will perform against competing systems.

More models under the Muse lineup, including open-source releases, are expected to follow.
