Garmin is rolling out a new feature in its Connect app that allows users to share workouts in a more visual and customizable way similar to a popular feature from Strava.

The update introduces transparent activity overlays, letting users place workout stats such as heart rate, distance, and pace directly on top of photos or videos. This makes it easier to create social media-ready content without needing third-party apps.

While Garmin has long supported activity sharing, this update expands customization options. Users can now choose from different aspect ratios and export overlays that can be layered onto content for platforms like Instagram.

The feature works by opening an activity in the app, selecting the share option, choosing a format, and applying a transparent overlay that can be added to images or videos.

Although the concept is not new, Strava has offered similar sharing tools for years, Garmin’s version focuses on flexibility. The transparent overlay option, in particular, allows users to edit content more freely outside the app.

The move comes amid growing competition between Garmin and Strava, as both platforms continue to improve their social and sharing features to keep users engaged.

For users, the update offers more ways to present fitness data visually, whether for personal tracking or sharing workouts online.
